Dataslates, Formations, and New Supplements..... Oh My!

Games Workshop is really pushing Digital Media this month with the 25 days of Christmas promotion. So far they have introduced 2 new rules types for 40k, the Dataslate and the Formation. Also on the way are 2 new supplements, Escalation and Stronghold Assault. If you surf the web, you would think the end of the world is coming!

Operation New Codex; Devestators

Operation New Codex will be a series of articles on new or different units I will be considering adding to my Crimson Fist army. With every new codex, comes change. This new Space Marine codex is no different. This time has not been as bad, with most units only getting cheaper and adding a couple new types.

New Space Marines; game one

Yesterday I got my first game in using the new Space Marine codex. It was a fun 2000 point game vs Brian and Blake and their Emperor's Children and Nurgle Plague marines. I took 2000 points of Crimson Fists lead by Pedro Kantor and Capt Cortez in terminator armor. I'm not going to give a play by play but I do want to hit on some of my first impressions after using the codex.

The Face of 40k Today

Warhammer 40k is an every changing game. The last six months has been a roller coaster of a ride the likes we have never seen. So many codex releases and a new edition to absorb means what was once good is no longer the cat's meow. Today's face of 40k is no longer the super human Space Marines. Heck today's face is not even human! The last 2 alien codexes has changed what everyone is playing or has changed what people are preparing to face.

Assault Armies in 6th: Part 2

As I sit here at work, my mind drifting off thinking of my next 40k project, I keep wanting to do a pure assault army. 6th edition has really changed how assault armies play and the game has shifted towards a more shoot first play style. I do believe there is hope and in fact I believe there is a dominate assault list out there vs the current meta.

CotN List Final Thoughts: Assault Arrmies in 6th

Con of the North is long over, and it is time to get my final thoughts on my list and games down on paper so to speak. I went with a drop pod/spearhead style army and turned in a 3-0 performance. I was in top running but 2 daemon armies edged me out with better painting and perfect battle points.

I took a straight Space Marine list with no fortifications. I had 3 units in drop pods and a tank force to thrust into their center. Out of the 38 players at CotN, many were playing gunline infantry armies behind an aegis defence line. While this is what I planned for, how games played out were not as planned.

6th Edition; First Thoughs

First off, I want to say I'm not an expert on 40k. I am not the best player, nor do I know all the tricks and best lists to use. I have been playing since 1998-99 right after 3rd edition came out. I do not remember the "Rogue Trader Days" but I do remember people saying the sky is falling after 3rd came out.

I remember when 3.5 was adapted. It was the trial assault rules and the vehicle fire points. 4th edition came and made them official. It also brought with it the entanglement rules for destroyed vehicles. gunlines were king, and Drop pod armies were pretty good. 5th edition came and brought the rise of cheap transports.

Through it all, my armies adapted, and changed. One thing you can count on during a new edition is the new rules made new troops or vehicles better that were maybe lacking in the last edition. 6th is no different. So after 4 games of 6th, it's time to put some thoughts to paper so to speak.

6th Edition Plans: My Armies

It has been pretty quite around here lately. Work, home, and hobby have been stupid busy though. Then 6th edition 40k hit and , yeah, not much blogging done. After a couple 6th ed games in yesterday, and the start of moving stuff into my new game room, I am finally taking the time to get caught up here.

They're Back!!!!

6th edition is around the corner and I'm very excited! So many new changes but one of the most anticipated for me is the allies are returning. Finally my Redemptionists will be playable again! I will take them as IG and run them as conscripts or blob squads. My 60 redemptionists haven't seen the table since we lost them after Chapter Approved rules were replaced by witch hunters.

I'm happy now.....
