CotN List Final Thoughts: Assault Arrmies in 6th

Con of the North is long over, and it is time to get my final thoughts on my list and games down on paper so to speak. I went with a drop pod/spearhead style army and turned in a 3-0 performance. I was in top running but 2 daemon armies edged me out with better painting and perfect battle points.

I took a straight Space Marine list with no fortifications. I had 3 units in drop pods and a tank force to thrust into their center. Out of the 38 players at CotN, many were playing gunline infantry armies behind an aegis defence line. While this is what I planned for, how games played out were not as planned.

Last weekend we made our annual trip up to Saint Paul for Con of the North. It is an awesome Friday thru Sunday con. This year Zach and Brian, friends of mine also cam up with my wife and daughter for a weekend of gaming and good times.

My Crimson Fist at CotN 2012.

Con of the North provided us yet another awesome RTT last Sunday. With 2 players short of a full 32 spots, 2 guys partied and over slept, it made for a large a diverse field. Of note was the missing IG and SW armies! Necrons definitely made their appearance and several others like Nids and Deathwing did too.

Below I will write up a brief of all three of my games and throw up pictures of most of the armies. I took pictures of every one's but some of them would not transfer over to Picasa.

Con of the North 2012; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly!

Wow, this weekend flew by! I guess that's what happens when you are playing on some of the coolest tables ever built. This weekend my family, a buddy, and I drove the 4 hours up to Con of the North in Saint Paul, MN. It was an epic weekend of gaming with old and new friends! This was also one of the fewest RTTs I have played in where every game was "the best game ever!" In the end it could all be summed up as The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Last of the painting is getting done in a few minutes, and all that is left to do is pack some laundry that's in the dryer. This weekend is my annual pilgrimage to the land of snow and ice, Minneapolis, MN. This looks to be the first snow free year since I started going up there, knock on wood....... Anyway, we are ready to leave first thing in the am as soon as Zach (of the Independent Characters podcast) gets to my house.

WIP Wednesday: Crimson Fist Paintathon!

WIP Wednesday is back! The holidays and a store remodel at work killed my free time and a fried computer didn't help either. This week I made great progress towards my Con of the North Crimson fists list. I'm also soaking 14ish sisters of battle in simple green.

So onward to the WIP pictures and a review of this week...

SM Vulcan List for CotN

I decided to take a break from painting my Crimson Fists for a few minutes and thought I would throw my list for Con of the North up for review. Con of the North is a three game classic RTT style tournament with super beautiful terrain and armies to match.

Tournaments and Painting

Lately I have been thinking alot about painting and tournaments. Some of it is due to me making a large push to touch up and finish new units for my Crimson Fists. Some of it is due to what I have been seeing at tournaments locally too.

What ever the reason, I began to question how I felt painting fit into the tournament scene. I was never a big fan of soft scores. I always had a painted army. I was/am of the firm belief that if it ain't painted, you don't use it. Tournaments were always a reason to finish painting an army. A deadline, a motivation to paint new units.

Winter tournament season is coming!

Burrr! I woke up this morning to a brisk 33 degrees. Even the dogs did not want to go out this morning.

So Fall is here and old man winter is coming down the road. I wanted to talk about up coming tournaments in the Midwest and how the weather affects gaming around here.

10th aniversary Con of the North RTT

2 weekends ago I had the pleasure of playing in Terrain Specialties 10th anniversary RTT held at Con of the North in Saint Paul, MN.  30 or more people braved 20 inches of snow, and battled it out on some of the best looking tables you will find in one spot. Below are shots of all the tables, then shots of all the armies. I think I got all of them, but I'm not 100% sure. If I missed your army and would like you picture published feel free to contact me and I will gladly edit it.

So here are the tables in no particular order......



I believe this is from a past Gamesday table. Thunderhawk down I believe.



Tables were awesome. They did lack blocking terrain, but it was not an issue with enough other terrain giving lots of cover saves. There was a lot difficult terrain, so dozer blades were nice.

Next are armies with a picture of the players label afterwards.
