Operation New Codex; Devestators

Operation New Codex will be a series of articles on new or different units I will be considering adding to my Crimson Fist army. With every new codex, comes change. This new Space Marine codex is no different. This time has not been as bad, with most units only getting cheaper and adding a couple new types.

New Space Marines; game one

Yesterday I got my first game in using the new Space Marine codex. It was a fun 2000 point game vs Brian and Blake and their Emperor's Children and Nurgle Plague marines. I took 2000 points of Crimson Fists lead by Pedro Kantor and Capt Cortez in terminator armor. I'm not going to give a play by play but I do want to hit on some of my first impressions after using the codex.

Yeah, It's Good!

I went into this movie with the expectations of giant robots fighting giant monsters. It delivered huge! It was awesome and their was a pretty good story too. I recommend this movie to anyone looking for an action movie!

Now to start my new Tau army.... how many Riptides?

The Face of 40k Today

Warhammer 40k is an every changing game. The last six months has been a roller coaster of a ride the likes we have never seen. So many codex releases and a new edition to absorb means what was once good is no longer the cat's meow. Today's face of 40k is no longer the super human Space Marines. Heck today's face is not even human! The last 2 alien codexes has changed what everyone is playing or has changed what people are preparing to face.

Assault Armies in 6th: Part 2

As I sit here at work, my mind drifting off thinking of my next 40k project, I keep wanting to do a pure assault army. 6th edition has really changed how assault armies play and the game has shifted towards a more shoot first play style. I do believe there is hope and in fact I believe there is a dominate assault list out there vs the current meta.

CotN List Final Thoughts: Assault Arrmies in 6th

Con of the North is long over, and it is time to get my final thoughts on my list and games down on paper so to speak. I went with a drop pod/spearhead style army and turned in a 3-0 performance. I was in top running but 2 daemon armies edged me out with better painting and perfect battle points.

I took a straight Space Marine list with no fortifications. I had 3 units in drop pods and a tank force to thrust into their center. Out of the 38 players at CotN, many were playing gunline infantry armies behind an aegis defence line. While this is what I planned for, how games played out were not as planned.

Con of the North Terrain

Pickup game of 40k Saturday at the con.

Terrain is the third "army" for me. I have two other full 40k armies, but recent began focusing on terrain. It really is like collecting a full army with many different themes and approaches to doing it. I took the lazy way and have been focusing on some prepainted terrain that matched my game board, but you could easily spend a year painting and modeling terrain that are center pieces on their own.

Con of the North's Terrain Specialties gaming group have some of the best terrain I have ever played on. Simply beautiful stuff. They also have a ton of it, with them doing a full 19 themed boards for their recent RTT.

I'm always looking for ideas for boards, armies,or miniatures, so I thought I would just show you some of their great boards....

My Hobby; Directions not included...

Every one's hobby ebbs and flows. How much it swings in either direction may vary by person or by periods in their life. My hobby is an evolving thing. She is alive and roaring at times, and in deep hibernation at times. When I started this blog, my mistress the hobby was in full bloom. Tournaments were plenty and I was in the middle of a great army build my Crimson Fists. Today I'm settling into my new career. The bulk of my Fists are finished, but allies open up new opportunities for future projects. What the future holds for my hobby and this blog is the question I'm struggling to find.

New Job = Less Gaming....

Wow this site has been dead. It has been on the back burner for me for good reason though. I recently started a new career as a 911 Dispatcher and there is alot to learn.

Two weeks ago I made an awesome trip up to Minneapolis to game with some old buddies. It was a super fun time of playing a huge battle of Epic. That night we played Inquisitor and it was a great story run by my friend Matt. The Inquisitor game finished up with part 2 to the story the next night and was a highlight of the trip for me. We also played a 2nd edition game of 40k and I got to see how different that was. It was a really fun trip and I'm really glade I got it in before starting the new job!

What does this mean for future gaming? Long term it will be good. It pays very well, and as a county employee, I'll have more time off for holidays and such. Short term it means I need to focus on the job and that will cost me in gaming time. So I apologise for the next month if it is really slow on here, but once my training period is over, I will actually have more time to blog.

Road Trip!!

This weekend I am taking a road trip up to Minneapolis/Saint Paul for some casual gaming. What convention or tournament is going on you ask?.... Nothing but a weekend of games at a buddies house. We should almost call this trip Origins or something cool like that, as I'm going up to play at the house of the Dude that got me started in this hobby. This is almost a pilgrimage of sorts. My trip to the holy land, or more correctly, the Alpha Site!

This trip has been talked about for the 12 past years but has never materialized, until now. This weekend will see games of all kinds played. Mostly games from the past like Inquisitor, 2nd ed 40k, and a massive multi player game of Epic on Saturday! Zach will be making the trip up with me, and I must thank him as he was a driving force this weekend got planned and was followed through on. Thanks Zach!

Next week I hope to get tons of pictures, some video, and maybe a battle report or after action summary. Till then, remember the first time you played a miniature wargame. I will be, as I get to play games with some of the best guys in the hobby!
