Bugeater GT 2011 Coverage: Player Spotlight, Clint "Adepticon Bathrobe Guy"

Arbite/Penal Legion counts as IG army.

My goal with these Spotlights is to focus on some of the great armies floating around the Midwest. These guys have spent a ton of time on their armies and they are truly beautiful and unique.

My first one is on a guy I met at a RTT a long time ago. I have seen him at Magecon unRTTs and played him the first time at a Fields of Honor RTT way back in 2003ish? Clint is an awesome person to hang out with and just geek out. He is also very brave to wear a bathrobe all of day 2!

Bugeater GT 2011 Coverage: Tournament results.

The Bugeater GT 2011 is in the books. Boy what a great event it was. Results can be found here;

Bugeater GT 2011 coverage: Game 1 VS Tau

My first game at the Bugeater Gt 2011 was against Alex Farrell. Alex was playing Tau. I have a tough time with Tau because I have trouble getting across the board. This stems from my split personality army, which I will explain in a later article.

Bugeater GT 2011 coverage: Terrain, Tables, and Interesting People.

Last article I touched on my first impressions of the Bugeater. Another great first impression they made on me was the terrain and tables. Overall, looking at the tables they looks awesome. Clearly alot of time was spent making terrain, because I had never seen most of this at the local store. Tim clearly took it to heart to have good terrain. Their was clearly an attempt to have LOS blocking terrain, and some of it was huge!

Bugeater GT 2011 coverage: The trip and first impressions.

Last Friday I headed out to Omaha NE for the first ever Bugeater GT. It was also the first GT held there. The closest previous one being the GW Minneapolis GT or Indianapolis maybe? So I had set a comfortable time of noon to take off, and I had the awesome pleasure of taking this lovely little car the 3+ hours down rural Nebraska roads...

Battle Report; Orks VS Crimson Fists 1850

Sunday I was lucky enough to make the trip up to Dark Matter Anime to try my 1850 Bugeater list out against Lloyd. Quick couple things about the trip up. The store was nice and their main tables in the back were really nice. They are a little cramped for space in that they have alot of different little rooms. Overall though it is a very nice place to play and if I lived up there, I would have no problem making it my hang out store. This was a good trip in that my wife could do some shopping while I game, and then we went out for a nice a supper at Lone Star (+1 marital capital).

Red Fluffy Bunny Army with a Big Chain Ax

So when I got into 40k way back in 1998, there was about 6 Khorne armies in our local group. They were all played by kids, and at the time I swore I would never play one. But I wanted to! They always looked cool, and the "charge ahead and slaughter everything" attitude was cool.

It's About Spacing Stupid!

Bugeater GT list vehicles minus the Ironclad.

So looking back at the Misty Mountain RTT, one of my biggest problems was I did not know how to play my army. Specifically, I did not know how to deploy my forces to maximum effect, nor did I know where each unit should be to support his brethren.

I have been thinking of this for awhile and tonight I stumbled onto a gem. Here is a link to a really good article on tanks and spacing/protecting side armour. In my game three, my opponent took advantage of my side and rear shoots. Not one of my preds in game three were destroyed vs front armour.

I need to work on getting more cover saves and remembering all space marine vehicles in my list have search lights and smoke for free.

Anyhoo check out the link to the article and post up what you think.

My keys to a good store.

I recently wrote a reply to a gentleman looking for what people liked and did not like about their FLGS. I was pretty happy at my response and thought I would throw it up heree also. These points could be used for any retailer and not just game stores. So here is my response as it apeared on House of Paincakes.

Star Wars: the Old Republic and Jawa Nation

I saw the link to the opening little movie thingy for the Star Wars MMO and I had to join the Jawa Nation. It just looks so awesome.

Pro Tour 40k?

I have been sitting on an idea for a couple years now. I'm going to put my idea on "paper" now since I think we are nearing a time someone else will implement it. It is also looking like I will not be  implementing it baring a nice run at the powerball lottery.

Honor Guard, who takes these guys?

So for the Bugeater GT coming up in Omaha, NE at the end of June, I'm thinking of taking a unit of Honor Guard. I'm running Pedro Kantor in my list, and as chapter master, he may take an honor guard. Yip, I'm taking the bait on that fish hook, for better or for worse. So what do we know about honor guard? I knew nothing. I have never seen them fielded, nor anyone even talk about taking them. They must really stink.

Ultramarine Honor Guard, picture property of Games Workshop.

So who are the Honor Guard, and what can they do for your army? Ok for 115 points you get a Chapter Champion and 2 Honor Guard. For 35 points each, you may add up to 7 more Honor Guard. Holy cow that's expensive! But is it really?

So this squad will cost on the low end, 115 points, and with 10 guys it runs 360 points with no upgrades. Upgrades include, adding relic blades to any member, and taking an auxiliary grenade launchers on any members. Both of these are are pricey and start to add up fast. My plan is to run my guys with zero upgrades.

I'm planning on running just the basic squad of the Chapter Champion and 2 Honor Guard. For 115 points it is not too expensive. I think they are a better buy than a cheap character even. At 115 points you get 3 wounds (one each), and 2+ saves (very nice). Pretty close to a character stats. The Champion has WS 5, that is nice. The real gem is a base of 3 attacks on the Champ and base 2 attacks on the Guards. Their gear is also nice. They come with grenades, frag and krak. The also come with bolters, bolt pistols, and power weapons. So bolt pistol and power weapons, gives them each +1 more attacks.

So this little 3 man squads has 4 weapon skill 5 attacks and 6 weapon skill 4 attacks, all power weapons. On the charge near Pedro, that's 16 power weapon attacks!

Another option available to them is the Chapter Banner for 25 points. It gives them +1 attack, but I'm running Pedro and the +1's don't stack.

I'm going to run them at minimum with a razorback. I'll put Pedro in the unit to give them a powerfist and my librarian will probably go to. I'm going to take force dome as my second power to give the unit a 5++. While they will not stand up to terminators, I don't expect them to. This unit is to help with Grey Knight squads that want to assault, grey hunters that need to be killed, and any semi tough or large unit that needs to be killed, hello death company.

As a side project my Honor Guard and Chapter Champion will all be named. I plan to keep track track of their kills and follies and maybe write a little report of their experience at the Bugeater. Maybe it will make for good reading.
