UBG is a great store and they have plenty of tables, and lots of great players there, so it should make for a very cool RTT tournament. For more details please contact them as I am just a messenger. I hope to attend this but at this time I'm scheduled to work that day.
Dataslates, Formations, and New Supplements..... Oh My!
Games Workshop is really pushing Digital Media this month with the 25 days of Christmas promotion. So far they have introduced 2 new rules types for 40k, the Dataslate and the Formation. Also on the way are 2 new supplements, Escalation and Stronghold Assault. If you surf the web, you would think the end of the world is coming!

Future Projects: The Hobby Hole
One of my projects for the winter and up coming year, is to improve my game room. My kids call it the hobbit hole due to the small undersized door into the room. I would like to change the lighting in the room, and also finish the walls, ceiling, and flooring.

Fully Operational Death Star?
With the release of Codex Adepta Sororitas and the upcoming release of Codex Inquisition, I see a potential for abuse. If you thought the screamer star was bad, this could take the cake!

Codex Space Marines: Revisiting Double Land Raiders
After my worse tournament showing in a very long time, a serious list shake up was needed. I know I needed to add grav weapons, and centurions will be my go to unit. Their lack of an invulnerable save and their shorter range will mean I need a delivery system. This and my love of Land Raiders led me to revisit the double Land raider list.

The day 40k Radio died...again.
When I got back into 40k, 40k Radio was the first podcast I listened too. I found out that I loved to paint while listening to podcasts. I even paid the membership fee to become a Freeboota, and for a year I was a huge fan boy. Man I love the movie sound bite clip at the end of the show!
But all was not well. Some of their negativity towards 40k, and their shift towards other games soured my love. Then came the commercial breaks. I'm all for making a buck, but it seemed over done. They fell in my rotation of podcasts that I regularly listen to.
They had recently announced they were switching to a once a month release schedule. This was not surprising as you can "hear" the love for the podcast was gone. Kyle and Rick were still great as always but you can just feel this podcast was a chore for Romeo. With episode 69 they have announced they are changing format due to Games Workshop's C and D letter. They blame the forced changes on GW, but it seems a convenient excuse to steer the podcast away from 40k and on to other games. 40k will still get segment on the show, but the writing's on the wall. 40K Radio is dying.
Hopefully they will step out of the way, and allow the 40k Radio name to be passed on. Unfortunately I believe they will try to sell the name if give it up at all. In the end it is the fans that suffer.
Codex Inquisitor Aproaches!

Khornehusker RTT, lessons learned..
Last month I attended the Khornehusker RTT in Omaha, NE. It was a great RTT with 24 people attending. My space marines were not ready with the new toys of the codex, but I thought I could push through a vehicle heavy, 5th edition list. I was wrong, but all was not lost. I learned several lessons and did pull some good units out of that list for future use.

SM ipad codex and upcoming Sister Codex thoughts
I recently made the decision to purchase the Space Marine codex on the Ipad format. I was torn between a physical book and going the way of digital. Both had pros and cons but it was another separate codex that made my mind up.

Operation New Codex; Devestators
Operation New Codex will be a series of articles on new or different units I will be considering adding to my Crimson Fist army. With every new codex, comes change. This new Space Marine codex is no different. This time has not been as bad, with most units only getting cheaper and adding a couple new types.

The Face of 40k Today
Warhammer 40k is an every changing game. The last six months has been a roller coaster of a ride the likes we have never seen. So many codex releases and a new edition to absorb means what was once good is no longer the cat's meow. Today's face of 40k is no longer the super human Space Marines. Heck today's face is not even human! The last 2 alien codexes has changed what everyone is playing or has changed what people are preparing to face.

Assault Armies in 6th: Part 2
As I sit here at work, my mind drifting off thinking of my next 40k project, I keep wanting to do a pure assault army. 6th edition has really changed how assault armies play and the game has shifted towards a more shoot first play style. I do believe there is hope and in fact I believe there is a dominate assault list out there vs the current meta.

CotN List Final Thoughts: Assault Arrmies in 6th
Con of the North is long over, and it is time to get my final thoughts on my list and games down on paper so to speak. I went with a drop pod/spearhead style army and turned in a 3-0 performance. I was in top running but 2 daemon armies edged me out with better painting and perfect battle points.
I took a straight Space Marine list with no fortifications. I had 3 units in drop pods and a tank force to thrust into their center. Out of the 38 players at CotN, many were playing gunline infantry armies behind an aegis defence line. While this is what I planned for, how games played out were not as planned.

Con of the North Terrain
Pickup game of 40k Saturday at the con. |
Terrain is the third "army" for me. I have two other full 40k armies, but recent began focusing on terrain. It really is like collecting a full army with many different themes and approaches to doing it. I took the lazy way and have been focusing on some prepainted terrain that matched my game board, but you could easily spend a year painting and modeling terrain that are center pieces on their own.
Con of the North's Terrain Specialties gaming group have some of the best terrain I have ever played on. Simply beautiful stuff. They also have a ton of it, with them doing a full 19 themed boards for their recent RTT.
I'm always looking for ideas for boards, armies,or miniatures, so I thought I would just show you some of their great boards....

My Hobby; Directions not included...
Every one's hobby ebbs and flows. How much it swings in either direction may vary by person or by periods in their life. My hobby is an evolving thing. She is alive and roaring at times, and in deep hibernation at times. When I started this blog, my mistress the hobby was in full bloom. Tournaments were plenty and I was in the middle of a great army build my Crimson Fists. Today I'm settling into my new career. The bulk of my Fists are finished, but allies open up new opportunities for future projects. What the future holds for my hobby and this blog is the question I'm struggling to find.
